The extremely rare Monstera Obliqua Peru is an extraordinary plant that had only been observed 17 times in the wild until 1977! Sightings in the wild now total 710 times.

This plant grows at about 2.5 leaves per month, but indoors, growth during the growing season will be limited to about 1 leaf per month.

The leaves are so hugely unusual because they have more holes than leaves. About 90% of the leaf surface may consist of holes. However, this causes the leaves to be fragile.

Incidentally, the Monstera Obliqua Peru also produces leafless stems ('stolons'). These grow horizontally across the ground until they find a tree or moss stick to climb on. These can grow as long as 20 metres in the wild.

This plant needs a constant high humidity of 85% and above. If this is not ensured, the leaves will dry out. The temperature should be between 21°C and 26°C degrees for this plant.

To help it produce energy, this plant should be provided with an extra light source, artificial or otherwise. However, excess light can damage this fragile plant.

If this plant is not kept in ideal conditions, it may attract insects. These will have to be treated in time to avoid damaging the health of the plant.
