Caladium Pink Beauty "XXL Big Plant"

Availability: In stock

Product Description

  • This plant stays compact.
  • This plant has beautiful spotted leaves.
  • This plant purifies the air.
  • Pay attention! Plants and orchids are living organisms that need good care.

Note: The Caladium is sold per rooted rhizome. This means that, depending on the season, the plant can have fewer leaves. In winter the plant is at rest and therefore it has no leaves. See below for more information about winter rest.

Caladiums are tropical perennials from tropical forests in South and Central America. The plant has been cultivated in Europe since the end of 1700. They are members of the Arum family (Araceae) and are used as ornamental plants. The large, heart-shaped leaves of the Caladiums can have wonderful color combinations.

It is rare to see a Caladium in bloom, but their colorful leaves already make for a beautiful scene. The leaves generally have a strikingly colored main grain. In addition, patterns can be seen such as spotted, veined and striped. There are no stems but the leaves are carried on long leaf stalks that emerge directly from the underground tuber.

The plants love warm and humid weather. They grow best in shade, although most species could also grow in some sunlight as long as they get enough water.

The color of the leaves also depends on various factors that are linked to the seasons (such as light intensity and temperature). For example, Caladiums that have (partially) colored leaves (for example pink or white) may turn green due to circumstances.

Caladiums must be fertilized regularly during the growing season, especially plants grown in pots. Use a low-nitrogen or balanced fertilizer because too much nitrogen can influence the leaf color.

It is normal for the leaves of a Caladium to die after a certain time of splendor. However, this says nothing about the health of the rhizome, it will create new leaves (under the right conditions and with the right care). Even indoors, Caladiums get a winter rest. When their leaves begin to die, stop watering. Let the plant rest and resume the water as soon as the new growth begins.
