Bromelia
Claessen Orchids originated out of a hobby with Bromelia’s and other tropical plants, and has grown out of an orchid nursery that still works with Bromelia’s!
Bromalia’s occur in many species and sizes. They are often used in a terrarium or in a paludarium, but are also very suitable for creating a better climate for orchids. They do this, because they can bring the humidity up easily and can also maintain the higher humidity for a longer period of time.
Some species of the Bromelia can be used by numerous frogs to lay eggs in. This enables the frogs to propagate. Besides that, the colourful Bromelia species are extremely suitable to add colour into the terrarium or paludarium. Other species of the Bromelia are often used as a living room plant.
This gender is named after the Swedish doctor and botanic Olaf Bromelius (1639-1705). Furthermore the plants have tough leafs, that grow out of deeply cut rosettes. These rosettes generally have thorns.
