Novelty Phalaenopsis

These special variants of the Phalaenopsis have a compact size, they are frequently in bloom and have versatile colours. Each species has its own characteristics. There are species characterized by their strong scent or rare colour combination. Because the plants stay small and compact, they do not take up much space and everyone can enjoy these beautiful orchids.

There was a time when every unusual Phalaenopsis hybrid was called a novelty. These novelties are now seen as a separate group. They are often hybrids of the genus Polychilos (a subgroup of the Phalaenopsis), crossed with species of similar size. This is done by (small) growers like us. We search for special compact Phalaenopsis varieties to improve them or to make more varieties (crosses) because of the pleasant easy growth and flowering of these varieties. This group of Phalaenopsis is collected by enthusiasts around the world. They are so high demanded because of their small size and the healthy flowers that they give.

These plants are mainly produced for hobbyists and orchid growers' markets. Just like the "normal" Phalaenopsis, they are house plants that flower regularly and for a long time. They need a lot of (indirect) light and weekly nutrition (in the form of fertilizer) just as the ‘normal’ Phalaenopsis. They are also relatively easy to keep. They deviate from the standard Phalaenopsis in terms of (flower) dimensions and inflorescence. All in all, these extraordinary hybrids are a real asset for every enthusiast due to their beautiful colours!

The flowers often are low under the leaves. If you hang these species, you can create a beautiful sea of coloured flowers.

The flower stems do not grow longer than 40 cm, most stay even shorter and also close to the plant. This is ideal for small windows; the plant fits on every window sill. The older the plant gets, the more flower branches it will get. Because they often flower again on the old stems, the plant is almost always in bloom.

These beautiful varieties are rarely offered.
