  • Pay attention! Plants and orchids are living organisms that need good care.
  • Warning! Variegated plants are more delicate in transport. The lighter pigment results in a softer leaf.

These plants are sensitive, because of low humidity or a sudden high temperature, cells can collapse. Brown spots may appear instead of the usual pink color. Unfortunately, this is something that can occur with, for example, transport conditions. These spots will also grow out again, it will not harm the health of the plant. We do our utmost to pack them carefully and properly!

The older the plant gets, the more likely it is that the new leaves are pink (or have pink spots). The color is therefore changeable, the plant is like a chameleon. New leaves may have more pink. Provided the plant gets a lot of light, but is not in full sun. Keep in mind that what appears to us as 'a lot of light' is sometimes not the right light spectrum for a plant. If your plant does not create any pink, you should probably change the exposure and/or light spectrum.

Rarely you come across a Philodendron with dark leaves. The combination of the dark leaves with the pink tones of this 'Pink Princess' are therefore unique. The stems are also tinted pink. The young leaves appear as dark olive-green with white variation. As the plants mature, the bright pink appears. This colouring may depend on the light level the plant gets.

Philodendron Pink Princess is a climbing Araceae and can be supported with a plant stick covered with moss or coconut fiber. This plant grows easily in the living room. The leaves can grow up to 25-35 centimeters long.

Place the Philodendron in a location with bright, indirect sunlight. Near a window where the sun's rays never touch the foliage is ideal. The light level must be built up. While it is normal for older leaves to turn yellow, it is a bad sign when several leaves turn yellow at the same time. This may be a sign that the plant receives too much light. On the other hand, if the stems are getting elongated with a few inches between the leaves, the plant is likely not getting enough light. This can also be seen in a faint leaf colour as proper light is needed for maximum colouring. Solid pink leaves can be a target for growers, but this is not often seen. In addition, the plant must be mature enough to show the pink colour.

This Philodendron prefers moist but well-draining soil. Allow the top inch of soil to dry between waterings. Putting your finger in the medium is a good way to check the moisture level. Hanging leaves can mean that the plant is getting too much or not enough water. But the leaves recover quickly when you correct this.

The ideal temperature for the Philodendron is between 18 to 25°C during the day and around 15°C at night.

Philodendrons do best in loose and airy soil. They grow well in sphagnum moss. Mixtures such as peat with vermiculite or peat with perlite are also fine.

Give the plant some fertilizer every month with watering during Spring and Summer. In Autumn, this can be reduced and no fertilizer is needed in Winter. When the plant is not fed, it will grow little and have smaller leaves. A light blue cast on the leaves usually indicates that the plant is not getting enough calcium and magnesium, which are essential micronutrients for Philodendrons.

The Philodendron is not susceptible to insects, but you may encounter aphids or mealybug. This is difficult to avoid entirely. Mealybug can be wiped with cotton wool soaked in rubbing alcohol. Regularly showering the plant with water will help keep pests at bay.
