There are various scientific studies that show that music can have a positive effect on the growth and flowering of plants. In particular, research has been done into the effect of music on tropical house plants, which are generally more sensitive to their environment than other plants.
Early studies for growth in music
One of the first studies to investigate this subject was conducted by Indian botanist Sir Jagadis Chandra Bose in the early 20th century. Bose discovered that plants responded to music by speeding up their metabolism, moving their leaves and growing their roots. These results have since been confirmed and expanded by various researchers.
A ficus that grows faster due to music?
A more recent study conducted in 2019 by researchers from the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology in Taiwan, focused specifically on the effect of music on the growth of Ficus Benjamina, a common tropical houseplant. The plants were divided into four groups: a control group without music, a group exposed to classical music, a group exposed to pop music and a group exposed to White Noise. The results showed that the plants that were exposed to classical music had the highest growth rate, while the plants that were exposed to pop music and White Noise grew less rapidly than the control group.
The African lily likes classical music?
Another study conducted in 2018 by researchers from the University of Helsinki in Finland, investigated the effect of music on the flourishing of the African lily (Saintpaulia Ionantha), a popular tropical houseplant because of its beautiful flowers. The plants were divided into three groups: a group exposed to classical music, a group exposed to pop music and a control group without music. The results showed that the plants that were exposed to classical music produced the most flowers and that the plants that were exposed to pop music also produced more flowers than the control group.
Vibrations and frequencies that help grow?
There are various theories about why music can have a positive effect on the growth and flowering of plants. One theory is that the vibrations and frequencies of the music can encourage the plants to accelerate their growth. Another theory is that the sound waves can help the plants to absorb more nutrients from the soil and more efficiently to photograph.
Doubts about the effect of music?
Although the results of these studies are promising, it is important to note that there are also studies that have not found any significant effect of music growth. There are also many factors that influence the growth and bloom of plants, including light, humidity and temperature
