The Laelia is a small orchid genus that includes about 25 species. The Laelia has various colors of flowers from purple, to white to pink, yellow and red. In the past, Laelias were also thrown under the heading of Sophronitis.
Of the Laelia, there are several varieties of flowers with distinct shapes. Nevertheless, they are basically similar with the shape lip, but the sepals may be curled, for example. This causes some species (such as the Laelia undulata) to have a very unique appearance.
Some species of Laelia are known for their special fragrance, such as the Laelia pumila or the Laelia speciosa or the Laelia purpurata.
Originally, Laelias are mostly from Mexico, but some have also been found in Central and South America.
