The Gastrochilus is a orchid genus which includes some 50 species and is endemic in Southeast Asia. Gastrochilus orchids are colorful and have patterns of dots or stripes. The flowers grow in compact clusters and often produce a fragrance off in optimal climates. The Gatrochilus has especially epiphytic species. They are relatively compact orchids that grow in somewhat cooler tropical climates. It can be a nice addition as a decoration in a terrarium. Popular species that are much sought after by enthusiasts include Gastrochilus calceolaris, Gastrochilus japonicus, Gastrochilus fuscopunctatus and Gastrochilus bellinus.
