In our nursery we have various forms of one plant. Plants are living beings and so they are sometimes different. Variations in color and size are therefore possible.

The pictures shown with our products are sample pictures. These photos give a true picture of what the plant may look like when properly cared for. The specifications are leading for the plant received. Please read the characteristics carefully before ordering.

What are sample images?

We have an extremely large, extensive assortment with thousands of plants. In addition, because specific plants change in shape, color and size on a weekly basis, it is impossible for our small team to capture all specific plants. Each plant grows in a unique way, so it is perfectly normal that there may be differences in color, shape and size.

But because we do want to communicate clearly to you what to expect with a product, we have specifications for each plant that will give you a clear picture of what to expect.

It is therefore rare that you will receive the exact plant shown in the picture. If this is the case, it will be explicitly mentioned in the product description. Our goal is to ensure that you have a pleasant, green shopping experience and that you can shop with us worry-free.

For people who like to browse among the plants, we have a physical store. Check the contact page for opening hours and more info.

Description

Rhynchostylis coelestis 'Blue' is a tropical orchid with a striking inflorescence and unusual color. This botanical species is loved for its compact growth, thick leaves and graceful flowers with a cool, violet-blue hue.

Origin

This species is native to Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. In nature, Rhynchostylis coelestis grows epiphytically on tree trunks in warm, moist forests. It is closely related to the Vanda, but is distinguished by its compact growth and drooping flower clusters.

Characteristics

Rhynchostylis coelestis 'Blue' forms firm, leathery leaves in a two-row rosette. Graceful, pendulous flower stalks with dozens of small flowers emerge from the center of the plant. The color ranges from lavender to bluish purple, with lighter lips and subtle fragrance. Flowering usually occurs in summer and, with proper care, may return annually. This species is particularly suitable for lovers of rare orchids with an exotic look.

Care

Light

Plenty of bright, indirect light is essential. Avoid direct sunlight on the foliage, especially during the hottest hours of the day. A bright windowsill facing east or west is ideal.

Temperature

This heat-loving species likes temperatures between 20°C and 30°C during the day, with a minimum night temperature around 18°C.

Substrate

Rhynchostylis does well in a very airy substrate, such as coarse bark or as a hanging plant without substrate, provided the humidity remains high enough.

Humidity

High humidity (between 60% and 85%) promotes both growth and flowering. Regular misting or use of a humidifier can help.

Nutrition

During the growing period (spring to fall), use orchid fertilizer at half strength every two weeks. During the dormant period, feeding less frequently or temporarily discontinuing feeding is recommended.

Watering

Water generously as soon as the roots turn silvery, preferably in the morning. Preferably dip the plant in demineralized water or rainwater for a few minutes and drain well. Then allow the substrate to partially dry.

Flowering

Flowering usually appears in summer and lasts for several weeks. During flowering, the flowers emit a subtle, fresh fragrance. After flowering, a short rest period is normal, during which the plant prepares for a new growth cycle.
