Origin
Araucaria is a genus of conifers, where in New Caledonia 13 of the 19 species are endemic. The genus dates back to the early Jurassic period, making these plants can also be called "living fossils." This particular plant is named after the Mapuche Indians from South America. The Spaniards called them Araucanos.
Characteristics
Most species are large trees that can reach a height of 30-80 meters. The versions listed on this page are chamber pines. These species are evergreen and often have a beautiful winding trunk. Especially for lovers of bonsai-like houseplants, this is a nice addition to the room.
Care
In terms of care they are quite easy. They like constant temperatures, which are between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius. By providing slightly higher humidity, you prevent the plant from drying out too quickly. They like a lot of indirect sunlight. Between waterings, the potting soil should not dry up completely, but also not stay too wet. In winter, this plant may be watered a little less and the nutrition may be reduced.
